Sensory babies education is a must for all NICU staff. I loved how it brings into focus how NICU and early life experiences influences the person. Sensory, motor and cognition are so interdependent and intertwined it's important as therapists working with infants and families we recognise the need to have a good basis and understanding of the development and interplay of the physiologic sensory motor behavioural systems of the infant and their careers.
In doing the sensory beginnings course, I was reminded why I’m a neonatal OT, and Emily and Lindsay reignited my passion for promoting, and striving to understand, the sensory experience of the infant.

Thinking about how the 'little things' I do actually have a big impact on the babies in my care. For example, something as simple as how loud I speak, being more aware of the stress that causes babies and the impact that has on their development.
